From Humble Beginnings to Industry Leader

With a focus on business telephone systems, installation, and wiring, DL Smith Communications emerged as a complementary venture to DL Smith Electric, an already successful enterprise in Topeka. As both branches grew, DL Smith recognized the need for a capable leader to steer the communications business towards greater heights. This is where the tale of Alltech’s transformation begins.

Enter Mike Rothfuss, DL Smith’s son-in-law, and a man of determination and expertise. While working as a regional manager for Eastman Kodak, Mike felt the weariness of constant travel. DL’s proposition to lead the communications business intrigued him, especially given his background in a family construction business. He saw the potential and challenge in this opportunity, realizing that stepping into this role meant not just building a business but also proving his capabilities as the son-in-law taking the reins.

Mike dove into his new role with determination. Armed with color copies printed from his own printer, he embarked on a pursuit to connect with businesses in Kansas City. The renowned KC Joes, now known as Oklahoma Joes, became one of his earliest customers. As the reputation of quality products and exceptional customer service spread, the company’s trajectory shifted upward.

Fast-forward to 2005, when Mike made the move to Topeka official and purchased DL’s share of the business. A few years down the line, he became the sole proprietor and bestowed upon the company a new identity: Alltech Communications.

Adapting with the ever-evolving technological landscape, Alltech transformed its offerings to match market demands. From business telephone services and wiring, the company transitioned to cloud-based voice over IP systems, specialized low voltage cabling for audiovisual setups, and cutting-edge security solutions. Mike’s wisdom and leadership guided this evolution.

Today, Alltech’s expertise and reliability cater to businesses of all sizes. Whether it’s a modest doctor’s office or a sprawling hospital complex, Alltech’s dedicated team delivers recommendations, installations, and top-notch customer service.
